I got driven by George for the first time back in the early 70's when I was 10 or 11. We were at 44 having just arrived from Canada, George was picking up a few of us. I have no idea where we were going or what we were doing. All I remember was the car and the journey.
I have no idea what type of car it had been originally , but George had modified it. The bonnet was of George's own design, with the front tyres having no covering - so the suspension was completely open. So I was very nervous getting into it. I questioned the safety of the car, which George dismissed and insisted I sit in the front - no seat belts in those days.
Like I said we started from 44, but the journey was a bit of blur. I do remember during the journey quite a few comments from George that the other drivers should not be allowed on the road and of me not being able to hold onto the seat tightly enough. We did arrive where-ever safely and of me being relived to be able to get out of the car. I was very scared.
Next time I had a similar feeling was 10 or 11 years later travelling in a Taxi in Turkey down by the Syrian boarder and the taxi driver overtaking 10 lorries on the hard shoulder.
Love you and miss you George.
